Installing Curl in PHP5 & Apache

Some times you might require cURL extension for your PHP installation. I recently needed this to run a Twitter plugin in my Elgg.
Before installing lets check whether we already have installed cURL.
Inorder to do that go to http://localhost/info.php and search for curl. If you find it then you have already installed.
If not then following are the steps to install cURL in PHP5 & Apache.

  • Open your terminal and type this command:
    sudo apt-get install curl libcurl3 libcurl3-dev php5-curl php5-mcrypt
  • After installing, open php.ini file (mine is at /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini ) and add this command: extension=curl.so
  • Save the file and restart apache server: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Thats all !
